Section summary

The Leipzig publishers reissue the long out-of-print pamphlet in 1908, citing the party’s revived interest in theory. Luxemburg has made small corrections to bring it up to date, and the edition adds some of her related essays on wages, crises, trade unions, co-operatives and social reform (not translated here).

In response to repeated requests for the pamphlet Social Reform or Revolution, which has long been out of print, we are publishing it in a second edition. We believe that in this way we are meeting in particular the gratifying interest in theoretical questions that has recently awakened noticeably in party circles, since the present pamphlet deals, in an easily understood and concise form, with a number of problems of principle and of science that are of lasting importance. With the consent of the author, who has made several minor corrections to the pamphlet to bring it up to date, we are adding to the polemic against Bernstein a few essays from the same pen which deal with related questions and which, in our opinion, therefore combine to form a whole. The reader will thus find in the present brochure, illuminated from various sides, the law of wages, the crisis, the question of the trade unions, of the co-operatives, of social reforms, and other subjects.
